What properties make Zinc Borate an optimal choice for different industries?

Zinc Borate also termed as ZB is an inorganic compound used by majority of industries. It is white crystalline, has 980 °C melting point, low vapor pressure, and its insoluble water properties make it an optimal choice for many industries.

In addition to these properties, its insoluble water factor with low toxicity in nature and melting point of 980 °C make it prime choice for many industries.

Following are the properties of this chemical that is commonly used by various industries-
  • Flame retardant- Many plastic, cellulose fibers, paper, rubbers, and textiles industry use this compound for their purpose because of its flame retardant feature.
  • Easily mixed with other compounds- Because of mixing quality factor of this compound, the paints, adhesives, and pigments industry does make use of this compound for their purpose.
  • Halogen free-Its flame retardant feature in conjunction with halogen-based and halogen-free properties makes it an optimal choice for various industries those requiring halogen for their industry purpose.
  • Anti-dripping and char-promoting agent- Many electrical insulator plastic companies use this chemical for conducting process like arcing and tracking.
  • Blending feature- Its chemical mixture property when used in conjunction with antimony trioxide and alumina trihydrate chemicals provides glass a protective layer thus optimal for use by plastic industries.
  • Protective feature- When used in conjunction with alumina trihydrate, magnesium hydroxide, red phosphorus, or ammonium polyphosphate, the chemical provides a protective feature to the plastics when burnt for making different things.
  • Extensive chemical property- ZB when combined with chemicals like polyvinyl chloride, polyolefin, polyamides, epoxy resins, polyesters, thermoplastic elastomers, and rubbers make it optimal for use in intumescent systems.
  • Synergistic effect- Zinc phosphate or barium borate is blended with ZB to create a corrosion inhibitor pigment for its wide use of application in many industries.
  • Help reduce fungicide- Plastics and wood products often get fungicide. To reduce fungicide effect on products, borate of Zinc is used by many wooden application industries.
In addition to these properties, the lubricating feature and vast other properties make it optimal choice for use in ceramic application industries.
